Help Complete La Puerta the Right Way!

The former La Puerta school site has sat vacant for more than 40 years. Now, Claremont residents and stakeholders have worked to develop a collaborative vision for this property that protects local priorities and benefits the Claremont community.

We need your help to finish La Puerta the right way!

Tell the Claremont City Council that you support the collaborative, low-density vision for La Puerta!

Compatible with Neighbors

The collaborative La Puerta plan calls for fewer homes on larger lots to match the low-density character of the surrounding community.

Protects Local Sports Parks

The plan maintains the existing boundaries and acreage of La Puerta Sports Park and Cahuilla Park, ensuring these spaces remain available for all Claremont residents.

Millions for Local Schools

The plan for La Puerta will fund major modernization efforts across Claremont Unified School District’s elementary, middle and high schools.

Enhanced Quality of Life

This collaborative plan will fund millions in park and roadway improvements, new public art and other public services that all Claremont families rely on.

Homes for Local Families

The La Puerta plan will provide a range of new homes that help to address the City’s housing goals and ensure that local families can grow and remain close.

Clarifying the La Puerta Property Sale

Trumark Homes closed escrow on the former La Puerta School site (Parcel 2) in February 2025. To clarify, Trumark only purchased Parcel 2—the 9.77-acre site east of La Puerta Sports Park. Parcel 1 (the park) remains owned by Claremont Unified School District and is leased to the City, ensuring it remains a public park.

Both legal parcels currently share a single Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN 8670-003-900), a common practice for publicly owned properties. Now that Parcel 2 has been sold, the County Assessor will issue a new APN reflecting separate ownership, a routine process that typically takes several weeks to months to complete.

We appreciate the community’s interest and are committed to transparency.
